Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Adriana Mather comes a heartwarming tale of love, family, and pastry perfection。

Maddi DeLuca is coming home for the holidays with her nine-year-old son, only it's not the triumphant return she might have hoped for。 She recently broke down on a reality TV baking show, letting the entire country know she feels like a colossal failure。 And she can be certain her mother will remind her of all the ways she hasn't lived up to expectations over the years。

Ten years ago, all Maddi dreamt of was running her father's beloved bakery in their tiny coastal town of Haverberry Cove, MA。 Her best friend, Wilder Buenaventura, had his own dream--a life with Maddi。 And for one brilliant moment when they were seventeen, those dreams collided。 They baked together。 They loved each other insatiably。 But like a fallen soufflé, their relationship imploded, taking their lifelong friendship with it。

If she had her way, Maddi would have stayed in California, hiding her head in its beautiful white sands。 But at her mother's request, she has returned to her hometown to help deal with an urgent matter concerning her father's will and his nostalgia-filled bakery。 What Maddi doesn't know is that this issue also mysteriously involves the one person she's spent forever trying to forget--Wilder。 Now she finds herself forced to make an impossible give up her father's bakery and her lifelong dream, or find a way to coexist with Wilder without murdering him with a cookie cutter。

I loved this angsty romance so much! It was a heart wrenching second chance novel。 Despite the catchy title, cute cover, and Christmas setting, this book is not fluffy。 Don't go into it expecting a light holiday rom-com or you could be disappointed。 Maddi and Wilder were inseparable as kids and quickly jumped into a relationship as teens until he broke her heart with no explanation。 Fast forward 10 years and Maddi has to return to her hometown because of an issue with her dad's will。 Wilder is t I loved this angsty romance so much! I am not a fan of romance… But this book was just awesome! I couldn’t quit reading it! Somewhat reminded me of the movie “Just Friends” but with its own sweeter style。 🥰 pun intended。

Listened to this on audio and this had way too many flashbacks。 And it doesn’t indicate the flashbacks via audio which got confusing at times。 Also although this called “mom com” it’s not a rom com imo。 It’s much more serious and the romance was SO slow。

Maddi Delucca is coming home with her 9 year old son。 She left for California and didn't think she would be returning home。 She had a melt down during bake off competition on television and is struggling to make ends meet。 She feels she has no choice but to go home。This is a second chance romance for her and Wilder。 It takes them awhile to work through the past and realize they still care for each other。 I enjoyed the coming home for the holidays and the memories they made。 It made me so hungry Maddi Delucca is coming home with her 9 year old son。 She left for California and didn't think she would be returning home。 She had a melt down during bake off competition on television and is struggling to make ends meet。 She feels she has no choice but to go home。This is a second chance romance for her and Wilder。 It takes them awhile to work through the past and realize they still care for each other。 I enjoyed the coming home for the holidays and the memories they made。 It made me so hungry reading about all the baked goods and food during this book。A heartfelt tale of learning to forgive yourself and others。 。。。more

5 out of 5 stars。 Went in with no expectations as I hadn't heard of it prior to finding it at my library and was pleasantly surprised by this story。It had several things I liked including, flashbacks, emotional growth, and a second chance romance I could get behind (this trope can be hit or miss for me)。Very enjoyable。 5 out of 5 stars。 Went in with no expectations as I hadn't heard of it prior to finding it at my library and was pleasantly surprised by this story。It had several things I liked including, flashbacks, emotional growth, and a second chance romance I could get behind (this trope can be hit or miss for me)。Very enjoyable。 。。。more

I listened to the audio version of this book。 The narration was great and I loved the storyline。 This isn’t the lighthearted romcom toga I expected but instead was a romance that also was a lot about grief, family dysfunction & expectations and the disappointment of life throwing your curveballs。 Two childhood best friends turned teenage sweethearts who didn’t last are reunited when they co-inherit a bakery in their hometown。 Their timing always seems to be off - or maybe it’s their families and I listened to the audio version of this book。 The narration was great and I loved the storyline。 This isn’t the lighthearted romcom toga I expected but instead was a romance that also was a lot about grief, family dysfunction & expectations and the disappointment of life throwing your curveballs。 Two childhood best friends turned teenage sweethearts who didn’t last are reunited when they co-inherit a bakery in their hometown。 Their timing always seems to be off - or maybe it’s their families and obligations always pulling them apart。 。。。more

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley。 Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions。I found Mom Com to be a fun and mostly enjoyable read。 I could not finish due to the back and forth through time。 Anytime I started to really get pulled in the story, we took an adventure back to the past。 It annoyed me to no end and had to stop。

The second Chance romance is perfect for fans of Katherine Center’s The Bodyguard and Every Summer After。It’s a second chance, small town romance between Wilder and Maddi。 It includes meddling family, dual timelines, and a super Swoony hero。You can’t go wrong with the audio or the physical/ebook。 The narrator did an amazing job。 I would recommend print for this one as there as flash backs that happen during present scenes and it’s easier to follow with the text。 Also the texts appear in text bub The second Chance romance is perfect for fans of Katherine Center’s The Bodyguard and Every Summer After。It’s a second chance, small town romance between Wilder and Maddi。 It includes meddling family, dual timelines, and a super Swoony hero。You can’t go wrong with the audio or the physical/ebook。 The narrator did an amazing job。 I would recommend print for this one as there as flash backs that happen during present scenes and it’s easier to follow with the text。 Also the texts appear in text bubbles in the text which you all know I love 😅😂It’s a clean romance so you can read it for your next book club。 All around a perfect read。 🤍 。。。more

This story was utterly delightful and just what I needed at this particular moment in time。 It was a typical rom-com in that it was full of misunderstandings and pining and quirky characters。 But it was also a lovely, cathartic read for me since it deals with the grief of losing a parent and having things left unsaid and just how hard the holidays can be with all of that looming over your head and your heart。I've loved every one of Adriana Mather's novels I've read, but this is my new favorite。 This story was utterly delightful and just what I needed at this particular moment in time。 It was a typical rom-com in that it was full of misunderstandings and pining and quirky characters。 But it was also a lovely, cathartic read for me since it deals with the grief of losing a parent and having things left unsaid and just how hard the holidays can be with all of that looming over your head and your heart。I've loved every one of Adriana Mather's novels I've read, but this is my new favorite。 I'm so excited for her foray into adult novels -- and a romantic comedy at that -- and I can't wait to see what she writes next! 。。。more

Thanks LibroFM for the gifted audiobook! This one had a lot of elements that should have made for the perfect cozy Christmas romance: small town, second-chance romance, family owned bakery, holiday season, etc。 etc。 So much of the story was fun and delightful but unfortunately I struggled with the main female character too much to really enjoy it like I hoped I would! A sweet, funny, second chance romance that hit the spot。 Maddi is in need of break。 Not even a big one, just a moment to catch her breath。 Then she is commanded to return home by her really judgmental mother。 Once she gets there she the hits keep on coming and she is forced to deal and make peace with her past and figure out her present。 A really enjoyable, well written story with terrific characters who work hard to make peace with each other and all find their happily ever after。I received a c A sweet, funny, second chance romance that hit the spot。 Maddi is in need of break。 Not even a big one, just a moment to catch her breath。 Then she is commanded to return home by her really judgmental mother。 Once she gets there she the hits keep on coming and she is forced to deal and make peace with her past and figure out her present。 A really enjoyable, well written story with terrific characters who work hard to make peace with each other and all find their happily ever after。I received a copy of this book from net galley。com in exchange for a fair and honest review。 。。。more

Gosh, this book hit me hard。 The last 20% of the book was emotional and heartbreaking。 Parents in Romance are becoming slowly my new favorite thing。 I will say however, the back and forth was giving whiplash between the last and present timeline。 I also love that her ex while a little douchey wasn’t vilified and actually spent time with their son。
